America’s Golden Age

America’s Golden Age

The Golden Age by Pietro da Cortona (Palazzo Pitti, Florence, Italy)

Are we in a Golden Age?

Not that I give a damn, but we got this bloated gasbag grifter 80 year old adolescent who’s sitting on his fat ass at the resolute desk in the White House, and he keeps talking about how (thanks to him) our country is entering a Golden Age. Or we’re already (again, thanks to him) in a Golden Age. Really? I’m not sure I know exactly what he’s talking about. I mean, I always thought a Golden Age meant the opposite of a Dark Age. I always thought a Golden Age was a period of peace and prosperity and, need I add, high achievement in the arts, sciences, culture, etcetera...Is that what we’re in?

If that’s what we’re in, I’m confused.

I’m not walking around with any gold jiggling in my pocket. I don’t see too much peace and prosperity, either. I kinda feel worse off now than I did before we entered the Golden Age. Could be Trumpy is confused, not me.

Here’s a bit of a speech Trumpy gave 43 days into his second term.

Partial transcript of President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress on 4 march 2025

President Donald Trump: Thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. It’s a great honor. Thank you very much, Speaker Johnson, Vice President Vance, the First Lady of the United States.

President Donald Trump: Members of the United States Congress, thank you very much. And to my fellow citizens, America is back.

President Donald Trump: Six weeks ago, I stood beneath the dome of this Capitol and proclaimed the dawn of the golden Age of America. From that moment on, it has been nothing but swift and unrelenting action to usher in the greatest and most successful era in the history of our country. We have accomplished more in 43 days than most administrations accomplished in four years or eight years. And we are just getting started.

President Donald Trump: I return to this chamber tonight to report that America’s momentum is back. Our spirit is back, our pride is back, our confidence is back. And the American dream is surging bigger and better than ever before.

President Donald Trump: Now, for the first time in modern history. More Americans believe that our country is headed in the right direction than the wrong direction. In fact, it’s an astonishing record, 27-point-swing, the most ever…

[Some shouting, Rep. Green stands and shakes his cane.]

House Speaker Mike Johnson [R-LA]: Our members are directed to uphold and maintain decorum in the House, and to cease any further disruptions – that’s your warning. Members are engaging in willful and continuing breach of decorum, and the chair is prepared to direct the Sergeant at Arms to restore order to the joint session.

House Speaker Mike Johnson [R-LA]: Mr. Green, take your seat. Take your seat, sir.

Rep. Al Green [D-TX]: [inaudible shouting]

House Speaker Mike Johnson [R-LA]: Take your seat. [Shouting] Finding that members continue to engage in willful and concerted disruption of proper decorum. The chair now directs the Sergeant at Arms to restore order. [Applause] Remove this gentleman from the chamber.

House Speaker Mike Johnson [R-LA]: [Green is removed] Members are directed to uphold and maintain decorum in the House. Mr. President, you may continue.

Good old Congressman Green. He reminded our Fraudster Bigot President that posting a photo of Michele and Barak Obama as Apes is not okay. That Trumpy is not okay. That introducing articles of impeachment repeatedly is okay and for that matter the right and honorable thing to do while the rest of the congress sits on their hands and whines or applauds this human disease posing as our commander-in-chief.

Aside from the drama with Congressman Green, a man with s real spine among congressional squids, Trumpy spoke for an hour and forty seven minutes. Mostly he chanted lies and bullshit lies and damned lies of how great he is and how he’s making us great or greater than we’ve ever been before. We’ve never been greater, he claims. Until now. Now we are entering true greatness. Golden Age Greatness. Thanks to him.

He’s been spewing this greatness golden age bullshit ever since he conned his way back into office. He’ll talk about how Great the country is. Or he’ll say we’re the Hottest Country in the world. Where the hell did he get that from? I mean, how do you equate a great country with being hot? Obviously his mind is stuck in the world of teenage girls. Where everything is hot or not. You think Epstein might have something to do with Trumpy’s obsession with hotness? They’re two peas in a pod. One pod hanged himself. The other pod is still very much alive. With the Hotness talk very much on his lips. Not to mention our Golden Age…

I’m wondering if our President is bullshitting us about this golden age.

I’m not much of a deep thinker.

Maybe I should consult an expert. Here’s the opinion of a big shot Professor:

“So much for Trump’s golden economic age that he promised at the start of his second term. Eighteen months into that term, Trump has little to show for his highly unorthodox economic policy efforts. Prices have not fallen, economic growth has not accelerated, inflation-adjusted wages have declined, the trade deficit remains large, and manufacturing employment has continued to dwindle. Meanwhile, a surging budget deficit has exacerbated the country’s public debt problem, while an aggressive and chaotic import tariff and immigration policy, coupled with savage cutbacks in research spending, threaten the country’s long-term economic growth prospects…Perhaps the most troubling aspect of Trump’s current economic policies is the seeming intent on squandering the once-in-a-generation opportunity to accelerate long-run economic growth being provided by the AI revolution. Not only is Trump’s reckless budget policy courting a full-blown bond market crisis and not only is his chaotic tariff policy stifling competition and limiting the economic benefits that the country can derive from international trade. He is also following a host of policies that must be expected to weigh down the country’s long-term growth prospects. These economic growth-stifling policies include an assault on universities and research institutions that threatens the innovation engine that has underpinned U.S. economic exceptionalism, and an overly zealous immigration policy that is causing labor shortages, particularly in the agricultural and construction sectors of the economy. They also include policies more befitting of a socialist economy that involve partial state ownership and significant state interference in major companies like Intel, Nvidia, and Anthropic. In short, Trump has yet to deliver the golden economic age that he promised in his 2024 presidential election campaign. At the same time, he is pursuing a range of policies that make such a golden age less likely even taking into account the economic promise of the AI revolution.” Desmond Lachman, senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.

The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) is a prominent, center-right public policy think tank based in Washington, D.C., that researches and publishes data on economics, government, foreign policy, and social welfare.

I don’t know for positive. But if I had to guess, I’d say Professor Desmond Lachman is a Republican.

Well, if we aint in a Golden Age, what are we in?

I don’t need a Professor from the Enterprise Institute to explain to me what we’re in. We are in deep shit. Gas prices will continue to rise because the war with Iran is not going to end anytime soon. Diesel prices will continue to rise and this is more troubling than rising gas. Products like food and building materials and pretty much anything that depends on Trucking will be impacted by the rising price of Diesel. Trumpy fucked himself royally with this war he started. He thought he’d knock over Iran like he knocked over Venezuela. He must’ve been thinking, we’re the hottest country in the world while Iran is not even a liddle bit hot!

Poor Trumpy. He’s not so smart. But he’s still the President. He’s got that going for him. What do we got? What we got is a dire situation. Prices will continue to rise while wages will remain flat. Normal working people will find it harder to get by…until one day they hit the streets. Masses will collect on the boulevards. Some carrying torches. Others waving pitchforks. Fires will rage. Cops will launch tear gas into the crowds but the people will surge ahead regardless of the rubber bullets and even real bullets. Mobs of angry desperate people will rampage the neighborhoods, looting, slaughtering the collaborators. The Maga crowd will huddle behind locked doors. Weapons locked and loaded. Until the nightmare passes. But the nightmare has only begun…

Old Trumpy thinks he ushered in a Golden Age. Looks to me like we’re headed for a Stone Age.

We could go back to living like Ape Men.
