Old People Need To Do Something

Old People Need To Do Something

Me offering free booze samples. That’s something…

Wednesday 21 May 2025 around 8:30 a.m.

It’s very important when you get old to set aside some time every day to do something. Old People need to keep busy. I try to get up every morning. Like today. I got up around five. Used the toilet. Went back to bed. Then, around six, I got up for good.

This is my foam pad bed. A nice tri fold. Used to be part of my double bed on Scruffy. The guy who bought my boat, Ronnie, he didn’t want the foam pad. I don’t know why. Maybe he didn’t like the stain on the bottom. His loss my gain. I took the foam pad with me. Had it in storage for a while. Now I got it with me here at the empty town house. ( yeah…I’m crashing on the floor at Kona Dave’s pad here in Sausalito, helping him fix it up for rental.) This beats van camping. I got a hot shower, washer/dryer, bay view, fridge, stove, microwave oven, plenty of space….got my cars parked off the street…

Got a real bathroom…

See that little window up there above the tub? I put in that window. Twelve years ago. Back when I was a Window and Door Salesman. Yes, I apportioned my immense talent selling windows and doors. I’ve done less gratifying things with my life. Give me some time to think about it and I’ll make you a list.

A side note: did you know Sausalito is the second whitest community in California? That’s right. Sausalito is 82.3 percent white. Laguna Beach comes in first at 83 percent. Mill Valley is third at 81.7 percent. That’s a lot of white people crammed into a community. I’m not crazy about white people to be honest. I used to be white myself. Now I’m old. That’s the only way to get over being white. Get real old. It may not work. It may in fact make you whiter…especially if you reside in a Red State.

Donald Trump keeps getting whiter. One day soon he’ll simply white-out, like that stuff you did to typing errors back in the day…

I Gotta be out of here by the seventh of June

Dave rented the town home to a sweet young lady in her early thirties. Maybe she’s not even that old. I’m not sure how old she is. May be she’s still in her twenties. Anyway, she makes over two hundred grand a year in the bio tech industry. She’ll be working from home. Just her and her aged dog.

She was the first person I showed the place to. That was Monday, I think, day before yesterday. Monday was a busy day. I showed the place to at least a dozen people. Two loners. Five beautiful young couples who make gobs of money in the tech industries. All of them make gobs of money. All in their early thirties. That’s right. The Demographic was amazingly consistent. Nobody did not work in tech. Nobody was not lovely to look at. Everybody was white. two of the group were loners but fit the demographic. The first being this lovely young lady. She didn’t complain about the carpets.

Yesterday Dave called me. He wanted my opinion on whom he should rent the pad to.

“You want my opinion?”

“They’re all perfect,” he says. He says it like he can’t believe it. “Their credit checks are perfect! They make gobs of money! I forgot how perfect Sausalito is! Last tenant stayed ten years! I forgot how perfect they are down there! Shit! Up here in Seattle all I get are unemployed deadbeats. In Sausalito everybody has a job!”

“And they’re all white.”

“Yeah…”

“Guess you can’t beat that.”

“You’re not supposed to say that. You better not put that in your blog.”

“Why not? If I was white I could get in trouble for saying that. But I’m not white. I used to be white. Now I’m old.”

“What?”

I said I used to be White. I got over it.

“Well, what do you think? Who should I rent it to? They’re all perfect.”

“Rent it to the first young lady.”

“You think so?”

“She was the first. Plus, she didn’t complain about the carpets.”

“She didn’t?”

“Not at all. You can clean the carpets and you’re good to go. Rent it to the first young lady.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

And he did.

So now I’m out of here.

But the good news is, I can stay till the seventh of June. That’s when the sweet young lady moves in.

But that’s only a couple weeks from now.

I need to get busy doing something.

Like find another boat.

It’s a beautiful world, they say. But even more beautiful when you got a roof over your head.

  1. I must say gloomy…the first photo in this blog of you behind the free booze bar…you look terrific! Cheers

  2. Richard! Old people need to choose carefully the selfies they post. Nice hearing from you as always 👍👏

  3. So, old people are “color neutral?”
    🤣🤣
    Good one Don👍
Thanks for making me laugh out loud!

I must say as I’ve gotten older younger folks seem a bit more respectful especially if I try to be gracious and they’ve been raised right.

This is one you can put on your résumé..
showing properties to renters, using your sales experience and charm.
You might just find it gratifying😉

  4. Well Kona has a good friend in you, he knows you’re a good judge of character lol. You can spot a dead beat a mile away . You do have a soft spot for the ladies and the pups . So the stars aligned. Everyone comes out good and wins . That’s always the best case scenario.
