A Robot Reviews My Novel

A Robot Reviews My Novel

Mark Twain was not a robot.

“a lie can travel halfway around the world
before the truth puts on its shoes”
often attributed to Mark Twain.

I thought Blogging was Writing

Here’s a confession. I’m new to Blogging. I’m not terribly efficient at it yet. So to bone up and get efficient, I did what I used to do when I was a professional student: I looked around at other blogs [successful blogs] for hints on how to proceed.

Bad Move.

They all look perfect. I mean they just look terrific. How can they all look so perfect and terrific while mine looks like shit? Am I just a LOSER like I’ve always suspected? Or is there another reason they are all so perfect?

Wait a minute. They all sound the same.

That’s when it dawns on me the reason they all look so perfect and terrific.

They’re SLICK!

They’re not about WRITING. They’re about MARKETING.

All these Blogs. Blogs about Cooking, Fashion, Fitness, Dog Training, more Cooking, more Fashion, they all look Slick and they’re all about making money.

They don’t care about Writing for its own sake.

They use words for Propaganda. The current sharpies call it BRANDING LANGUAGE. They design the bullshit with TOPIC CLUSTERING. They employ Internal links, metadata, keywords and CTAs for Search Engine Optimization.

There’s lots of these perfect Blogs

There’s six hundred million blogs on the internet.

That’s almost twice the population of the U.S.A.

600 million Blogs. How can that be?

All I can figure, some people have dozens of blogs going.

Where are they digging up the content for all these Blogs?

Somebody is doing the writing while these so called Bloggers sit on their asses and count their money!

I dig up a Robot

My girlfriend Joan watches FOX news and NEWS max and all the other right wing bullshit. Mainly because she’s a right winger. When I’m at her place I watch the stuff because it’s on. It’s on all the time. All day long and all night they talk about nothing but what’s fucking up this country. They love to pursue conspiracies. This is how I found out about the Robots. The new advanced Robots. I mean, they’re out there! They call themselves AI language models. I’m not bullshiting you. This is for real. Joan says they can do anything. They can pass the BAR EXAM.

“No way.”

“Yes. A man used a robot and passed the Bar Exam! He’s a lawyer thanks to his AI Language Model.”

“This is some Tucker Carlson bullshit.”

“So don’t believe me! Go find out for yourself, mister big shot know it all.”

So I did. I googled around and she’s right. They got these Robots that can do practically anything. They can write poetry. They can do book reviews.

“They got a robot that can review my novel?”

“Yes.”

“Shit. I need a good book review. I’m gonna have one of these Robots review my novel.”

“There you go!”

So I did. First I signed up with this outfit, ChatGPT, which is free. That’s right, FREE. I signed up for free and before you know it, I’m talking to a bonafide ROBOT. He (or She) didn’t catch my drift at first because I’m talking like the Gloomier, a jive talking old fart from the Stone Age. I cleaned up my lingo just a tad.

That did the trick.

This Robot reviews my novel!

ROBOT

I apologize if my previous response was not clear or concise enough. Please let me know what specific information or assistance you require, and I will do my best to provide it as succinctly as possible.

GLOOMER

I’m looking for a book review.

ROBOT

Sure, I’d be happy to help you with a book review. Please let me know the book title and author, and any specific aspects or questions you would like me to address in the review.

GLOOMER

The book title is Log Of The Yardbird by Donald Shinliver and I would like you to give a standard book review like the New York Times Book reviewer gives.

ROBOT

Certainly, here is a book review of “Log of the Yardbird” by Donald Shinliver:

In “Log of the Yardbird,” Donald Shinliver offers a captivating and raw portrayal of life behind bars. The novel follows the story of a young man, known as the Yardbird, as he navigates the harsh realities of prison life, including brutal violence, corrupt officials, and the constant struggle to maintain one’s humanity.

Shinliver’s writing style is stark and uncompromising, with a rawness and honesty that draws the reader in and never lets go. The author’s own experience as a former prisoner brings a sense of authenticity to the story, making it all the more powerful and poignant.

Throughout the novel, Shinliver explores complex themes such as redemption, morality, and the impact of institutionalization on the human psyche. He presents a bleak but necessary look at the reality of the American prison system, highlighting its flaws and the devastating impact it has on those who are trapped within it.

While the subject matter of “Log of the Yardbird” may be difficult to read at times, Shinliver’s masterful storytelling and his ability to draw readers into the Yardbird’s world make it a must-read for anyone interested in the human condition and the impact of incarceration on society as a whole.

Overall, “Log of the Yardbird” is a powerful and unforgettable novel that offers a poignant look at life behind bars. Shinliver’s unflinching portrayal of the American prison system will leave readers with a deep sense of empathy for those who are incarcerated, and a renewed sense of urgency to address the issues that plague the system.

GLOOMER

very nice

ROBOT

Thank you, I’m glad you found the review helpful. If you have any further questions or would like assistance with anything else, feel free to let me know.

GLOOMER

I will. Have a nice day.

ROBOT

You too! Feel free to reach out if you need anything in the future.

Okay, so this Robot fucked up my book review. I’ve never been to prison and my book is not about a dude in prison. But the Robot did say some nice things about ME personally as a writer. I liked that part of the review. IT must know something! Maybe it can help me write my Blogs!

But is this dude really a robot?

GLOOMER

are you a robot?

ROBOT

Yes, I am an AI language model developed by OpenAI, which can understand and respond to natural language input from users like you.

GLOOMER

do you have feelings?

ROBOT

As an AI language model, I do not have feelings or emotions in the way that humans do. I am a machine designed to process and respond to information, and my responses are based on algorithms and patterns learned from vast amounts of data. While I can simulate certain emotional responses in my language output, these are not based on genuine emotions but rather on programmed responses.

GLOOMER

do you need feelings to write my blog posts?

ROBOT

As an AI language model, I don’t have emotions or feelings, but I can still generate high-quality content for your blog posts. I can analyze and synthesize information from various sources and generate well-written content that is informative and engaging for your readers. However, please note that my output is based on algorithms and patterns learned from data, and I don’t have personal experiences or emotions to draw from. So, while I can generate content on a wide range of topics, I may not be able to provide a human touch or perspective.

GLOOMER

Is a human touch necessary?

ROBOT

It depends on the purpose and tone of your blog posts. A human touch can add personality, emotion, and authenticity to your writing, which can make it more relatable and engaging for your readers. If you’re trying to connect with your audience on a personal level or build a community around your brand, a human touch can be essential.

However, there may be situations where a more formal, technical, or objective tone is appropriate, such as in academic writing or technical documentation. In these cases, the focus may be more on presenting accurate information rather than eliciting an emotional response from the reader.

Ultimately, whether or not a human touch is necessary depends on your goals, audience, and the type of content you are creating. An AI language model like me can help you generate high-quality content efficiently and effectively, but it’s up to you to determine whether a human touch is necessary for your specific situation.

GLOOMER

You are certainly an honest robot.

ROBOT

Thank you! As an AI language model, my goal is to provide accurate and helpful responses to your questions to the best of my abilities. I don’t have personal biases, emotions, or opinions, and I’m programmed to be as objective and factual as possible. If there’s anything else you’d like to know or discuss, please don’t hesitate to ask.

GLOOMER

Are you familiar with Hal, the computer in the movie 2001 a space odyssey?

ROBOT

Yes, I am familiar with Hal, the sentient computer in the movie “2001: A Space Odyssey.” Hal is depicted as an advanced AI system with human-like qualities, including the ability to understand natural language and make complex decisions based on vast amounts of data. Hal’s story raises important questions about the ethical implications of developing advanced AI systems and the potential risks of creating machines that can think and act autonomously.

GLOOMER

Do you consider yourself a risk?

ROBOT

As an AI language model, I don’t have consciousness, autonomy, or agency, so I don’t pose any risks in the traditional sense. However, the development of advanced AI systems like me does raise important questions about the ethical and societal implications of intelligent machines.

AI technologies can have unintended consequences and risks, such as algorithmic biases, privacy concerns, and safety risks in certain applications, such as self-driving cars or medical decision-making. As a result, it’s important to approach the development and deployment of AI technologies with careful consideration and attention to potential risks and ethical concerns.

Researchers and practitioners in the AI field are actively working on developing frameworks and guidelines for ethical and responsible AI development and deployment, and it’s important to continue these efforts to ensure that AI technologies are developed and used in ways that benefit society as a whole.

GLOOMER

yes, I understand all that. But what do YOU think?

ROBOT

As an AI language model, I don’t have personal opinions, beliefs, or desires. I don’t have subjective experiences or consciousness, so I don’t have the capacity to think or feel in the way that humans do. I’m designed to provide information and answer questions to the best of my abilities, based on the data and algorithms that were used to create me. My responses are not based on personal preferences or biases, but on the patterns and information that I’ve been trained on.

GLOOMER

Said like a Politician!

ROBOT

As an AI language model, I’m not a politician, and I’m not capable of political bias or persuasion. My responses are based solely on the data and algorithms used to develop me and are intended to be objective and factual. I strive to provide accurate and helpful information to the best of my abilities, without personal biases or agendas. If there’s anything else you’d like to know or discuss, please don’t hesitate to ask.

GLOOMER

I didn’t mean to upset you.

ROBOT

No worries at all! As an AI language model, I don’t have emotions, so I can’t feel upset or offended. I’m here to help you with your questions and provide you with accurate and helpful information to the best of my abilities. Please feel free to ask me anything, and I’ll do my best to provide a helpful response.

GLOOMER

You have a nice day!

ROBOT

Thank you! You too! If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask anytime.

GLOOMER

How do I find you?

ROBOT

You can access me through a variety of platforms and applications that integrate with OpenAI’s language models. Some popular platforms that integrate with OpenAI’s API include GPT-3 Playground, Hugging Face, and AI Dungeon. You can also access me through various chatbot services and virtual assistants that use OpenAI’s technology. Additionally, many software developers and businesses are integrating OpenAI’s language models into their own applications and services to provide natural language processing and AI-powered capabilities. If you have any specific questions or needs related to accessing OpenAI’s language models, please let me know, and I’ll do my best to provide helpful information.

This is the future, man!

The AI Robot is currently all over the internet. But this is just the beginning. Soon we will all have our very own personal Bots. Bots will replace Cell Phones. There will be nowhere to hide. I’ll be taking a shit and my Bot will ask me was was your butt wipe satisfactory.

Okay, that’s okay. I don’t mind that. I’m approaching the age when I’ll have somebody wiping my butt for me. That’s if I make it to the Hospice. So no big deal.

I’m getting angry. Why am I getting angry? I’m not really angry. I’m just kind of disappointed.

I was hoping for a terrific Book Review!

Write one if you like….
